Vivian M. Pontius

Vivian M. Pontius died Feb. 24 of natural causes. She was a resident of Peachtree City, Ga., but was born in Butler.

She was the youngest of nine children born to John and Jessie Rawson Crawford.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, her parents and her siblings.

Vivian touched many people through her life of 85 years. Someone said she was always a lady even in her last days and that her faith spoke to many through the way she lived her life. She served her Lord and Savior through her church work as a Sunday school teacher, a deaconess and any other capacity when called upon. She enjoyed gardening, however her family was always the center of her life.

She worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry in the unemployment office. She worked in the Butler, Greensburg and Latrobe offices. Her last working assignment was that of an examiner intake officer. In the early years of her life, she worked for Troutman's Department store where she met her husband, Jack.

She is survived by two daughters, Michelle and David Phillips of Fayetteville, Ga., and Lisa and David Malota of Vine Grove, Ky.; her grandchildren, Clarinda and Jamey Trask of Fayetteville, Ga., Sarah and Chris Felix of Winder, Ga., Eric and Jill Phillips of Mooresville, N.C., and Bradley Phillips of Kennesaw, Ga.; and her great-grandchildren, Levi, Logan and Leslie Trask, Landon Phillips, and Carter Felix. She had many nieces and nephews spread throughout the country who she dearly loved.

PONTIUS — A memorial service for Vivian M. Pontius, who died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, was at First Christian Church of Tyrone, Ga. Ralph Warren officiated the Celebration of her life.The SouthCare Cremation and Funeral Society of Stockbridge, Ga., handled the arrangements.For more information, visit www.southcare.us.
