Fire destroys house in Center Township

CENTER TWP — A family of four escaped injury after a mobile home caught fire at 116 Pinehurst Road Thursday night.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 9:15 a.m.

Fire Chief Greg Brewster of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company said the home was a total loss, but said the two owners and their two teenage children escaped without injury before firefighters arrived.

The owner of the home is Matt Farr.

Brewster said the cause of the fire is still being investigated by the fire marshal, but it is believed to have been caused by a cigarette.

Brewster said he did not have an estimated value of the damage, but added Farr said he had insurance on the home.

About 30 firefighters from Lick Hill, Prospect, West Sunbury, North Washington, and Oneida Valley volunteer fire departments assisted.

Units from Mercer Road, East Butler and Herman were on standby.

All units left by midnight.

The family is staying with relatives.
