Driver injured in Saturday morning crash

BUFFALO TWP — A man was flown early Saturday morning by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital following a single-car accident on Route 28.
David L. Umstott, 29, of Lower Burrell faces charges of DUI after he crashed his car just before 3 a.m. about a quarter mile north of the Route 356 overpass.
Umstott’s car veered off the road, struck a small tree and rolled over numerous times before coming to a stop on its roof.
State police said there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from Umstott’s vehicle.
The Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company was at the scene.
Fire Chief Matt Cypher said Umstott was able to free himself from the car, but was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for his injuries.
The accident caused the road to be shut down for about 15 minutes so the helicopter could land, Cypher said.
State police said Umstott, who was unsure how he crashed, agreed to a blood test before being flown.
Charges of DUI are pending results of the blood test.
