Selling our Sunnyview

I have reservations about the way the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is being sold. To me, it seems Sunnyview could be sold for as little as $13.5 million so that the county commissioners can build a new office building. This might look like a good business decision to maximize profits, but it sure isn’t a humanitarian thing to do.

Sunnyview belongs to the people of Butler, not to the commissioners. They have the authority to sell Sunnyview, but this is an authority given to our commissioners so that they may do the will of the people, not run their own personal agenda.

Sunnyview has been owned by the people of Butler County for 100 years. It was never created to be a money-making business. Our local churches, which furnish thousands of people with free meals each day, are not money-making businesses.

Often the things people do for each other are done from the kindness of their hearts, not to fill their pocketbooks.

For 100 years, Butler County men and women have donated their time and money so that the more unfortunate among us have dignity in their sickness and old age. It would be nice if all humans can reach old age healthy and rich, but that will never happen.
