Some schools close Tuesday because of cold

The extreme cold temperatures have caused the closing on Tuesday of a number of schools and Butler City Hall.

Schools and school districts that will be closed are: Freeport, Grove City, Mars, Moniteau, Seneca Valley, and South Butler County school districts; St. Gregory’s School, and St. Luke Lutheran School Holy Sepulcher.

Butler Mayor Tom Donaldson ordered all “non-essential” city employees to stay home Tuesday.

He also ordered the city building closed until Wednesday.

Grove City College closed at 2 p.m. Monday and will remain closed Tuesday.

Intersession classes are canceled for Tuesday. Most campus facilities will be closed; however, the Physical Learning Center will remain open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Offices will reopen and classes will resume on Wednesday.

Butler County Community College closed its offices at 4 p.m. Monday and will remain closed Tuesday.

Slippery Rock University, which also does not have classes in session, will operate as scheduled.
