The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team nearly overcame an 18-point deficit late, but fell on the road to Millersville 87-78 Friday night.

The Rock trailed by 18 points with six minutes remaining, but cut the deficit to 81-78 with just more than a minute to go.

Millersville, though, hit 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

Maurice Lewis-Briggs scored 29 points and also had 15 rebounds for SRU, which fell to 10-4.

The Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team went scoreless for 9:20 to start the second half and fell to Millersville 68-55.D’Asia Chambers scored 18 points to pace SRU. She also had seven rebounds and two blocked shots.Aidan Geise added 13 points and also had seven boards for The Rock (2-10).SRU led 33-32 at the half, but shot 33 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes.
