2-vehicle crash injures 4 in Center Township

CENTER TWP — Four people were hurt, two seriously, in a head-on crash Saturday night on Route 8, state police said.

The wreck happened just before 10 p.m. when Thomas R. Hosack, 29, of Butler lost control of his northbound car just north of Pine Drive.

The vehicle crossed into the opposing lane, colliding with a southbound car driven by Shera J. Frobe, 40, of Butler, police said.

The collision spun both cars around, sending Frobe’s vehicle against the guardrail. Hosack’s car ended in the middle of the road.

Frobe and her backseat passenger, Christian M. Ormiston, 20, of Weatherly, Carbon County, both were trapped in the vehicle and suffered injuries that police described as “major.”

Chief Greg Brewster of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department said firefighters had to cut through the car to rescue them.

Frobe and Ormiston were taken to unknown hospitals in Butler or Pittsburgh. Their conditions were not known this morning.

Frobe’s husband, 40-year-old Garrett O. Frobe of Butler, a front-seat passenger, and Hosack both had minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

All the occupants except Ormiston were wearing seat belts, according to a police report.

Route 8 was somewhat slushy, Brewster said, but it was not known if that was a factor in the crash, which closed the road for about 45 minutes.

Police said Hosack was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
