SUMMIT TWP — No one was injured when a train plowed into a unoccupied car Tuesday morning, according to a state police report.

The Chevy Impala driven by Jarod Hack, 19, of Butler became disabled on Carbon Center Road’s railroad crossing just west of McGrady Hollow Road, which is about one mile north of Route 422.

About 7:50 a.m., a Buffalo and Pittsburgh locomotive was traveling west. The train’s engineer saw the vehicle and put the train into emergency shut down mode.

However, the train was not able to stop in time and it hit the car on the rear passenger side. The train pushed the car about 450 feet before stopping. The car still was on the tracks a little bit when it stopped.

Hack was not in the car when the train struck it. He was not cited for the crash, according to the report.

Firefighters from Lick Hill, East Butler, Herman and Onieda Valley assisted state police. Crews cleared the scene at about 12:30 p.m.
