HERSHEY — Grove City’s Ryan Budnik and Aaron Benka, along with Seneca Valley’s Mariah Mack earned medalist honors as a top-25 finisher at the PIAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

The Seneca Valley girls fared best among area teams by placing fourth of 18 squads in Class AAA.

Mack led the way with a 20th-place finish in a time of 19 minutes and 18 seconds.

Rachel Hensler wasn’t far behind, as she took 29th overall at 19:37. Isabelle Biase also ran well in 39th place at 19:49.

District 10 champion Grove City finished fifth of 19 teams in the Class AA boys standings.

Budnik crossed the finish line in eight place with a time of 16:50. Benka finished just one second later and finished 10th.

Mars received strong showings from Nathan Mrdjenovich (33rd, 17:25) and Gage Zimmerman (43rd, 1:31), while Slippery Rock’s Andrew Maxwell (53rd, 17:38) and Knoch’s Brandon Grumski (54th, 17:38) went stride for stride down the stretch.

WPIAL champion Mars claimed 12th among 21 teams in the Class AA girls race.

Shannon McChesney paced the Planets, finishing 51st in a time of 20:41.

Grove City sophomore Catie Jaskowak was 36th overall at 20:55. Freeport’s Rebecca Dudek was next among area runners in 61st with a time of 20:45.

Slippery Rock freshman Tabitha Donaldson (70th, 20:50) and Knoch’s Mandie Moxie (83rd, 21:01) also ran well.

Karns City senior Emily Schumacher finished 39th in the girls Class A race in a time of 20:58.
