No fan of Kelly

Regarding Gary Neely's letter (“In defense of Kelly,” Oct. 18), I couldn't disagree more with his assertion that U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly is the people's voice in Washington. From what I've observed, Kelly is less a congressman and more a ventriloquist's dummy for the far right.
After all, didn't Kelly sell his political soul to the devil when he signed Grover Norquist's pledge agreeing never to vote to raise taxes? By giving in to the blackmail, Kelly won't be primaried as long as he toes the Norquist line of free market utopianism.
Furthermore, I remember reading in the Butler Eagle about a Kelly-sponsored House resolution to protect gun owners from a United Nations treaty about firearms registration. That's crackpot stuff only worthy of a National Rifle Association fundraising letter.
The greatest service Mike Kelly can render to the people is to resign his perch in Congress.
