Butler man dies in crash in Forest County

TIONESTA TWP, Forest County — A Butler man was killed Friday morning after crashing his truck along Route 62, just before the Venango County line.

John E. Zang, 67, was driving home to Butler Township from his camp in the county about 9 a.m. when he lost control of his truck, according to Forest County Coroner Norman Wimer.

Zang’s truck crossed the center line shortly and slid sideways over a guide rail before flipping down an embankment and hitting trees.

The impact from the crash caused substantial damage to his truck.

Tionesta and President township fire departments used the Jaws of Life to get Zang out of the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 10 a.m.

Wimer said Zang, who was wearing his seat belt, died on impact of injuries to his chest.

Seneca Rescue and state police also assisted at the scene.
