Butler County's great daily newspaper

Cruz stood firm

The Butler Eagle editorial cartoon of Oct. 22 is a great example of media bias. It showed U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz in a self-centered, “ME,” light over the government shutdown.

Was it Cruz who refused to bring to the floor more than five bills passed by the House to run the government and prevent the shutdown? No. It was Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Was it Cruz who refused to negotiate on the continuing resolution with the House in a conference committee? No, again it was Reid.

Was it Cruz who refused to negotiate for any changes to the Affordable Care Act? No, it was President Obama.

Was it Cruz who passed the Affordable Care Act, saying, “We have to pass it so you can read it.” That was then-speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

So, what did Cruz do to cause the shutdown? He stood his ground. He stood on principle. He did what he was elected to do — qualities not found in the administration and other Washington insiders.

I think he did a good job and I pray he keeps doing it.
