The Affordable Care Act — Obamacare — is far from what the name implies. This despicable legislation was foisted upon the American people despite the opinion of the majority. Those in Congress who voted in favor of it failed the American people. Instead of reading and then debating the bill, they listened as then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told them to pass it to see what was in it. And they did. That was a gross misrepresentation of the American people.

Now many who promoted this onerous bill are trying to exempt themselves and their organizations from it. This includes many of the representatives and senators who voted for it. This could have been avoided had they read the bill instead of voting along party lines.

What has the Affordable Care Act accomplished?

First, we are finding that it is not affordable; in fact, it has increased the cost of health care insurance for many. In some cases the increase is more than 100 percent.

Second, the bill is turning America into a country of part-time jobs. Many businesses are finding it easier to cut employees’ hours than to adhere to the costly requirements of Obamacare. The bill itself comprises more than 2,000 pages and there are already more than 16,000 pages of regulations. Can the inept government administer this program?

Third, the burden of paying for this program is placed on those who can least afford it: the young, those involved in starting families, buying houses and seeking good paying full-time jobs.

Many in Congress attempted to stop Obamacare from being implemented by defunding it. They were accused of shutting down the government. That is a blatant lie. Obamacare can be defunded without affecting other government programs and agencies. We are not as stupid as the political establishment thinks we are. And that includes members of both parties.
