Slippery Rock cruises past Franklin, 61-0

Washington defeats Freeport; Summit, A-C Valley go down

Slippery Rock’s running machine rolls on.

The undefeated Rockets racked up 507 yards rushing in cruising past Franklin, 61-0, for a road high school football victory Friday night.

Slippery Rock has rushed for 3,509 yards through eight games this season.

Frank Conlon had three carries for 163 yards, including touchdown runs of 83 and 60 yards. Ryan Lauster had five carries for 100 yards, along with a 68-yard punt return for a score.

Brandon McKnight rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Reeseman intercepted three passes, returning one 37 yards for a touchdown.

Jake Whitmer’s lone pass of the night went for 21 yards and a touchdown to Brady Kadlubek.

Washington 36, Freeport 7

Steve Lassinger returned the second-half kickoff 89 yards for the Yellowjackets’ only score of the night.

Washington returned two interceptions for touchdowns against Freeport (2-6).

Shady Side Acad. 38, Summit Academy 8

The Knights received a 1-yard touchdown run from Nate Cofer, but could not overcome a 30-0 first-half deficit in a section loss to unbeaten Shady Side (8-0, 7-0).

Cofer led Summit Academy (4-4, 4-3) with 77 yards on 15 carries. Elijah Hardy added 65 yards on the ground for the Knights.

St. Joseph’s 28, A-C Valley 7

The winless Falcons scored first as Mike Suto found paydirt on a 12-yard run in the first quarter.

The game was tied at halftime before St. Joseph’s out-cored A-C Valley 21-0 in the second half. Evan Redding completed 10-of-19 passes for 117 yards in a losing cause.

Grove City 48, Titusville 0

The Eagles (5-3, 4-2) had lost three of four games before breaking loose in this road win.

HockeyButler finished second in the 20-team field at the PIHL’s St. Margaret’s Foundation Fall Face-Off Tournament recently at Harmarville and Warrendale Bladerunners.The Golden Tornado dropped a 5-4 shootout to Seneca Valley in the championship game.Troy Double scored a shorthanded goal with 2:30 remaining in regulation to give Butler a 4-3 lead, but SV’s Alexander Crilley tied the game 35 seconds later. The Raiders converted their first two shootout attempts to get the win.Butler picked up wins of 9-6 over West Allegheny, 7-3 over Central Catholic, 10-3 over Chartiers Valley and 5-2 over Bethel Park. The Tornado lost to Mt. Lebanon, 2-1, in preliminary play.Double had nine goals and eight assists in the tourney, while Nick Whann had six goals and nine assists, Tanner Chuba six goals and five assists. Goalie Logan Rothbauer made 130 saves.Butler and Seneca Valley meet each other to open the regular season at 6:10 p.m. Oct. 29 at Warrendale Bladerunners.
