Work to start on Rt. 528 park and ride lot expansion

JACKSON TWP — Construction on the expansion of the Butler Transit Authority’s Route 528 park and ride lot is expected to begin within days.

John Paul, the executive director of the authority, said at Tuesday night’s meeting that construction equipment is on site at the roughly 80-space parking lot, and the contractor has a green light to begin work.

The $1.875 million expansion of the lot will add about 250 parking spaces.

The project also will add a waiting shelter.

A section of the lot, which holds about 20 to 30 vehicles, will be closed immediately when construction begins.

The rest of the lot will remain open until Feb. 1. That is when the lot will close for about 90 to 150 days, until construction is complete.

The authority recommends motorists use park and ride lots in Portersville and Warrendale, as well as the New Castle Transit Authority’s park and ride lot on Route 422 as options while work is done on the Route 528 lot.
