Rockets defeat Central Tech

GC hangs on; A-C Valley, Union, Summit suffer setbacks

It was tough sledding for the Slippery Rock High offense.

The Rockets' defense made the sledding just as tough for Central Tech.

Despite gaining only 214 total yards, Slippery Rock limited the Falcons to 186 yards of offense in a 21-6 road win Friday night.

Slippery Rock (3-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Travis Lauster and a 5-yard score by Jake Whitmer.

Central Tech (1-2) answered with a 1-yard touchdown plunge by Calvin Franklin to cut the lead to 14-6 at the half.

The Rockets put the game out of reach with a 1-yard TD by Whitmer, who led Slippery Rock with 72 yards on 15 carries.

Lauster added 70 yards and Frank Conlon 66 for the Rockets, who attempted only one pass in the game.

The Rockets' defense limited Franklin, Central Tech's leading rusher this season, to 50 yards. The Falcons managed just 88 yards on the ground on 26 carries.

Grove City 37, Reynolds 30 — The Eagles (3-0, 2-0) jumped out to a 23-0 halftime lead and hung on for a big region win.

Foster Reznor scored three touchdowns, two on the ground and one through the air, and finished with 105 yards rushing on 15 carries.

He also caught four passes for 45 yards.

Reynolds (2-1, 1-1) nearly completed a comeback, outscoring Grove City 30-14 in the final two quarters.

The Raiders got as close as 30-23 before Jared Graham recovered a fumble in the end zone to give the Eagles some breathing room at 37-23.

Clarion-Limestone 35, A-C Valley 27 — Dallas Wingard rushed for 139 yards on just seven carries, including a 53-yard touchdown run, but the Falcons squandered an early 14-0 lead in a KSAC loss.

A-C Valley (0-3) led 21-7 late in the second quarter, but the Clarion-Limestone (1-2) scored a pair of touchdowns just before half to forge a 21-21 ties.

The Lions scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter for a 28-14 lead and cruised.

Mike Suto added 62 yards on the ground for A-C Valley.

Redbank Valley 55, Union 34 — Mark Strothers had 30 carries for 290 yards and seven touchdowns as the Bulldogs won this offensive showdown.

Union quarterback Lane Cicciarelli threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns — one each to Dylan Shirey, Chet Carmichael and Tanner Schrecengost. Carmichael had six catches for 165 yards and also scored on a 75-yard run.

Shirey added 11 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown for the Golden Knights (1-2).

Burrell 35, Summit Academy 6 — J'Ron Hill-Phillips scored a late touchdown for the Knights in a section loss.

Ryan Sowol led Burrell with 105 yards and three touchdowns.
