Horse lover beware

I’m always trying to find gifts that delight my granddaughter, who loves horses. A friend told me she was “adopting” a horse at Equine Angels Rescue for her daughter by sending a donation each month, as you would sponsor a poor child in Africa. She was excited to give this gift to her daughter because visiting the horse, grooming and riding it was something they could do together.
The money was sent monthly; I believe it was about $100. Calls were made to schedule times to spend with the horse, but every time the Equine Angels people gave an excuse why they could not come see the horse.
When I called my friend to get the phone number to make arrangements for my granddaughter. she told me “don’t bother.”
My friend said after the third no, they drove down to the rescue barn. There were no adults. The teens working there told my friend the horse they were looking for had been gone for a long time.
Just a warning to other kindhearted people sponsoring a horse. Make sure the horse actually exists.
