'Meat' the need

Every year the combination of the Butler Farm Show, the completion of the youth 4-H and FFA livestock projects with the Livestock Market Sale, and the St. Vincent de Paul Food Cupboard appeal for animals to “meat” the need for feeding the hungry in our area, produce a synergism for the Butler community.

Since the Butler Farm Show was organized in 1948, its core values have promoted the idea of bringing city, farm, and business people together.

The 4-H and FFA Livestock Sale is one of the crown jewels of Farm Show Week. The club members of Butler County develop character and learn citizenship and responsibility from their parents, leaders and advisers who devote their time and expertise to guide these young people.

The virtues of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are in harmony with these values. It is with our deepest gratitude that our food cupboard acknowledges the many blessings we receive from this sale.

The P.M. Rotary Club donated a hog raised by Sarah Laughlin. Judge Tim Shaffer donated a hog raised by Nathan Patton and one raised by Ben Drake. XTO Energy donated a hog raised by Robin Peters and one raised by Jenna Felker. Amerikohl Mining Inc. donated a beef steer.

We run solely on cash and food donations to address the needs of the nearly 800 families who come to us for food monthly. It is essential that we acquire staples to replenish our shelves 12 months a year; and we thank all those, as well, who help us meet that need.
