Hearing delayed for man in burned boy case

CHICORA — A Saxonburg man had a court appearance Tuesday afternoon on charges that he threw nail polish on his girlfriend’s 7-year-old son and recorded the incident after the boy was set on fire.

But prosecutors asked for a two-week delay to interview another possible witness.

Defense attorney Gerald Cassady says he may request a bail reduction for 36-year-old Edward Myers.

Meyers declined a request for comment before his hearing before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.

Police say Myers threw nail polish on the boy in the May 25 incident then did nothing to help him after he was set on fire, either by Myers himself or other boys at his home.

Police say the boy suffered third-degree burns on his face and chest.
