Girlfriend of man killed in standoff arrested

LATROBE — The girlfriend of a man who shot a state trooper during a standoff last week has been arrested for allegedly providing him with two guns, police say.

Authorities allege in court documents filed Monday that Julian Faye Upholster, 25, of Latrobe helped Scott Murphy, 46, in the pharmacy robbery that led to the standoff. Murphy died in the Friday shootout with police in Latrobe, about 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Trooper Brian King, 44, is recovering from an eye injury he suffered after he was shot during the standoff. Police said his bulletproof facial shield and helmet likely saved King’s life.

The .380-caliber handgun and an AR-15 assault rifle found in Murphy’s home were stolen by Upholster, the court documents say. State police said Upholster stole the two guns from her roommate on Wednesday and took them to Murphy’s home.

The following day, she allegedly drove Murphy to a pharmacy where police say he stole several hundred OxyContin pills at gunpoint, using the .380-caliber handgun.

State police said Upholster drove the getaway car after the robbery and the pair returned to Murphy’s house and took some of the Oxycontin.

Upholster has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm, theft, firearms not to be carried without a license, robbery, and two counts each of receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit robbery. She was being held in the Westmoreland County Jail. No attorney for her was listed on court papers.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 29.
