LISBON, Venango County — The Scrubgrass Grange will host a public forum at 7 p.m. Thursday to introduce the candidates for the Central Electric Cooperative board of directors.

It will be in the grange hall on Route 208, 4 miles east of Clintonville and 3 miles west of Exit 42 on Interstate 80.

Nominees Jody Weaver, Gregory Faller, Kenneth Etzel, and Margaret Woods have been invited to participate.

The candidates will introduce themselves, present their platforms, and answer questions.

Members may vote for candidates by ballots received in the mail, electronically or in person at the annual meeting at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Whitehall Camp and Conference Center.

Coldwell Banker picks office directorDiana Figurelli has been appointed sales director of the Coldwell Banker Real Estate Services office in Butler.Figurelli of New Castle will be responsible for the oversight of more than 25 sales associates serving Butler County.A native of Chicago, Figurelli has more than 14 years of commercial and residential real estate experience. She earlier worked for the McDonald’s as a training coordinator in its real estate and architectural division.Coldwell Banker has 13 offices with more than 900 sales associates serving Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Washington, and Westmoreland counties.

Cabot Guns shooter wins national titleCABOT — Cabot Guns’ marksman Brian “Gunny” Zins won the NRA National Pistol Championship at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio, on July 12.He now has won 12 national championship titles.It also is consecutive national titles for Cabot Guns and a victory from among a field of 643 of the world’s best pistol marksmen and equipment.To win, Zins finished with a score of 2,634 out of 2,700, 16 points ahead of the next competitor.Zins’ .45-caliber competition pistol is a standard production model Cabot 1911. Cabot has named this new model its “Cabot Bullseye.”Cabot Guns is a joint venture of Cabot Guns and Penn United Technologies of Jefferson Township, a manufacturer of precision components for the aerospace, nuclear and other industries.

Guardian Protection names new VPWARRENDALE — Guardian Protection Services recently hired Randy Tecza as vice president of operations.Tecza brings more than 14 years of experience in installation and service for Comcast Keystone West as the vice president of technical operations, Alltel, Cricket Wireless and as a consultant for the U.S. Homeland Security Department.At Comcast, Tecza was responsible for field operations teams that provided technical support for about 700,000 customers via 18 operation centers.He is a Lock Haven University graduate and has an MBA from Point Park University. He also received executive-level business training from Harvard University.Tecza lives in Mount Lebanon with his wife and three children.

July 31 job fair set for veteransBUTLER TWP — A job fair for veterans and military spouses will be at VA Butler Healthcare on July 31.The event will last from 9 a.m. to noon in the Building 1 auditorium on New Castle Road.More than 25 employers of all sizes are expected to participate.The jobs available will be open to veterans and spouses with all levels of work experience.Interested job seekers are encouraged to register at hoh.greatjob.net. Pa. jobless rate holds steady in JuneHARRISBURG — Employers in Pennsylvania added an estimated 19,000 jobs to payrolls in June as the state’s unemployment rate remained steady.A Friday report by the state Department of Labor and Industry showed that June’s bigger payrolls are in large part to the tourism, education and health sectors adding more than 27,000 jobs. Those additions overcame losses in manufacturing, construction and the trade, transportation and utilities sector.The monthly addition was one of the biggest since 2010, when Pennsylvania began recovering from the effects of the recession. Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate of 7.5 percent in June was the same as May’s.The national unemployment rate was 7.6 percent in June.

GE shares rise to post-crisis highNEW YORK — An improving outlook for the U.S. economy and signs of stabilization in Europe sent General Electric shares to their highest level since 2008 despite modest quarterly results.“Orders in the U.S. were the strongest in some time,” CEO Jeff Immelt said on a conference call with investors following the release of the company’s second-quarter results Friday.Immelt said the U.S. economic environment remained “mixed,” but his outlook marked an improvement from recent quarters, when he expressed more caution about the U.S. market.
