Trashy governing

As a Slippery Rock resident, I attended the July 2 borough council meeting to speak about moving the borough’s bulk trash collection date back to the Friday in May, after Slippery Rock University graduation.

But in their infinite wisdom, council decided instead to form a “factfinding committee” to research the borough’s most recent controversy, the bulk trash issue.

To my surprise, the meeting’s chair stated this committee’s meetings will not be open to the public, and thus, I oppose the formation of such an illegal secret committee — one that will cost the taxpayers $200 an hour, the pay rate of the borough solicitor who proposed this cockamamie idea.

Why the need to research the bulk trash issue? There have been several people, including myself, who have been doing fact-finding for the past month, costing the taxpayers nothing. In my opinion, 99.99 percent of the residents of Slippery Rock are for changing the bulk trash pickup date back to May, after the university’s commencement.

Why drag out this controversy another four to six months?
