Who is Metcalfe?

State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe of Cranberry Township is a name in the news. He has been quoted as saying gay marriage cannot be considered by the Pennsylvania House because it is against his “God’s Law.” But who is Daryl Metcalfe?

Metcalfe’s Pennsylvania House website is mute about his (lack of) education. Wikipedia says he attended but did not graduate from Kansas State University.

Metcalfe likes to call himself a veteran, but his House website is also mute about his service; Wikipedia says he served in the Army as a radar technician. Apparently, “Captain America” Metcalfe saw no combat.

I did. From my experience as an Army officer, I can tell you it is very likely the only time Metcalfe ever touched a weapon was during basic training.

But remember, he likes to puff up his veteran credentials and even helped form a group of “veterans” (Operation Free) who claim climate change is a left-wing conspiracy.

Metcalfe will not grant other veterans — gay veterans who have the same rights of marriage that he has — protection against discrimination in housing and employment because such freedoms would be against his “God’s Law”.

Will some responsible journalist ever ask Metcalfe why his God is filled with so much hate, and the God most of the rest of us know is not.
