Butler County's great daily newspaper

Fantastic fundraiser

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett refused to extend health care coverage to an additional 700,000 low-income Pennsylvanians. Corbett seems to be running in the Worst Governor contest.

However, life goes on. As reported by the Butler Eagle, (June 30, page C4) $106,000 was just raised in a garden party for the Community Health Clinic of Butler County, which is the largest fundraising at a single event for the clinic.

As a resident of Butler County, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to 150 donators in this event as well as Butler Health System, Henry Hillman Foundation, Highmark and UPMC for their support to the clinic, which provides free medical care to low-income people in the county.

A special thank-you goes to District Judge Tim Shaffer who helped organize this fundraising event. Shaffer is an elected county official. His dedication to Butler people is not limited to the courtroom, and it can be widely recognized. In my opinion, we should have more county officials like Shaffer.
