Community discord

What is happening in Slippery Rock Borough? It used to be a place where people worked together peacefully to create a safe and pleasant place. Every time I go to the grocery store or in town, I hear complaining and witness people upset with changes and attitudes of borough council members.

In the latest controversy, a change of dates by the borough has made the spring bulk trash pickup of no use to Slippery Rock University students who rent apartments. Borough officials have maintained that it’s the landlords’ problem.

I lived in the borough for 26 years, raised four children, then moved to the township a half mile from the borough line and still own properties in the borough so I am still a taxpayer.

Yes, my properties are rental properties. I would like to know my tenants are still welcome and have quality services that they pay for and have had in the past.

Slippery Rock University, township and borough officials worked together in peace. If problems arose, which they did, the ones involved worked together, solved them and were able to continue compatibly. They helped each other in areas including police protection, equipment and manpower without counting the dollars.

There have been many changes through the years and change is good. But I believe we need to remember who we were, where we came from and where we are going when it comes to accepting and treating everyone and making decisions for all.
