Butler County's great daily newspaper

D.C. out of control

I read your paper week after week along with the Tribune Review and Post Gazette. I read the Wall Street Journal and Forbes and Fortune. I try and read the Bible daily. I have read and understand the Constitution and the Federalists Papers. I have tried to learn right from wrong both logically and ethically. I find our news media think our citizens and myself are as dumb as a rock.

Our government is out of control: IRS, Benghazi, EPA hidden email accounts, DOJ misconduct, post office bankruptcy, etc. The president is in charge and is responsible for his employees; he has sworn an oath to do this this, to protect us from enemies both foreign and domestic. These employees and their leadership are surely domestic enemies and we need protection from them and the president. This president and his attorney general enforce laws they like and disregard the rest.

George Santayana in 1863 told us, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”. Ben Franklin in 1775 said, “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety” The Republicans to a lesser degree and Democrats to a large degree are violating both of the admonishments. Are we going to look back in 10 or 20 years and ask ourselves two question? How did we allow these behaviors to go unpunished? How could we be so addleminded and watch a new chapter of our country disintegrate because we stood by and did nothing?

The National Security Agency tells us they have stopped 50 attacks due their surveillance and I thank them for that. A more important question is, who and how are you making sure they are not violating our constitutional rights while they search for the bad guys in that process?
