Names of GC fire victims not released
Flames and thick smoke were gushing out nearly every window and vent of a two-story house in Grove City by the time firefighters got to the two-story house on McConnell Street hours before dawn Monday.
Panicked neighbors could not say if anyone was inside. There was no car in the driveway. There were no cries for help.
No one could recall if they saw homeowner Brian Fortuna return that evening.
Within an hour, however, after the blaze was out and crews got the go-head, firefighters came upon a pair of bodies in the charred rubble of the house.
Investigators did not immediately release the names of the victims. Police would only reveal that the bodies were that of a man — believed to be Fortuna — and a woman.
The state police fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire that broke out shortly after 3 a.m. at the 90-year-old house.
“There’s no reason to believe at this point that it’s suspicious,” said Grove City police Chief Dean Osborne.
