SLIPPERY ROCK — The case of the former Slippery Rock University professor who died after a fall into a glass door sliced his throat is closed.

Chief Terry Fedokovitz of the borough police said nobody saw Glen Brunken’s fall and police were not able to make a definitive determination of what officially caused the accident.

“This is just one of those freak occurrences,” Fedokovitz said.

On June 3, Brunken, 69, of Worth Township apparently tripped and fell into the door of Bob’s Sub and Sandwich Shop on South Main Street.

He cut his throat area and was bleeding heavily. He was conscious when he was taken to the Grove City Medical Center. Later, a medical helicopter flew him to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, where he was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office listed the cause of death as “accidental sharp force injury to the neck due to ground level fall.”

Brunken retired from SRU in 2009 after working there as an art professor for 40 years.
