Clinton Township to get gas compressor station

CLINTON TWP — A natural gas compressor station is coming to the township.
It may be built in the spring of 2014, but it could be held off until 2015. Construction will take four to five months.
The project was approved Tuesday night by the township supervisors.
The Superior Appalachian Pipeline LLC plant will be on 20 acres off Lardintown Road. The pad will be on eight acres.
Two buildings are proposed; each would be 240 by 65 feet and 30 feet tall. Each could contain up to five compressors.
Compressor stations maintain pressure in pipelines that move natural gas.
Dan Wallace, environmental engineering consultant for the project, said that parts of a gravel road leading to the site will be widened and moved away from wetlands to comply with environmental regulations.
Because a visual screening buffer is required, few trees on the site will be removed.
Supervisor Mary Zacherl asked about added truck traffic. Paul Corrigan, project manager for Superior Appalachian, said that although more trucks will be used in construction, only one truck will go to the site once a day during operations.
Supervisor Jim Halstead asked how close the nearest house is to the site. Corrigan answered 400 feet.
Zacherl told Corrigan and Wallace that Superior Appalachian will need to submit for a building permit when the company is ready to build.
