Butler County's great daily newspaper

Green's impact huge

The late Butler County Commissioner Jim Green had been in the news and on the minds of many people the last few days.

The dedication of a flagpole in Slippery Rock in his honor was only one of the ways he was remembered this past week.

At the meeting of the Butler County Community College Foundation last Wednesday, he was praised for his work in establishing the college almost 40 years ago. Green put his political life on the line working hard to see that the college was established.

The college was born in much controversy, but now it would be hard to imagine our county without its presence here and in neighboring counties.

When Green started his political career, he was just 29 years old. Young and forward-thinking, he helped give Butler one of its most valuable assets.

I’m sure when the college celebrates its 40th birthday, the then-young Commissioner Jim Green will be well remembered.
