‘Circus’ is in town
Henry Brody East Butler
When I was a young man I couldn’t wait for the three-ring circus to come to town. You had the ringmaster; the clown dressed in loud, bright clothes; and the man they always were trying to pull the rug out from under. Now that I am an elderly man all I have to do is tune in to Channel 10 to see a three-ring circus. You have the chairman of the board as ringmaster, one clown in a loud sports coat and the clown they always try to pull the rug out from under. Commissioner Dale Pinkerton said in the Butler Eagle that Commissioner Jim Eckstein is costing the county money. I agree. Pinkerton and Commissioner Bill McCarrier wanted to raise the county real estate tax by two mills. Eckstein said to cut costs. They did find money in the budget and only raised the real estate tax by one mill. I thought Republicans tried to save the taxpayers money. The people on Social Security didn’t get a cost-of-living raise in 2011 and 2012. We got only a 1.7 percent increase this year. Why should county employees get a 4 percent raise every year?
