Fire response lauded

I am writing this to thank a group of men and women who very seldom get recognition but very much deserve it.

I’m talking about the volunteer fire departments in our community.

On April 13, there was a fire in the hot mill at AK Steel. Within minutes, there were five volunteer fire companies at our main gate. They were Lyndora, South Butler, Meridian, Mercer Road and Greenwood Village.

Due to the efforts of these men and women, the fire was contained to the outside offices.

This fire very easily could have spread to other areas and could have been disastrous to our plant.

But because of the firefighters’ efforts, we’re in operation today.

I hope all the men and women who responded will accept our sincere thanks.
