Mars 2nd graders plan food drive
ADAMS TWP — Second and third graders in Sarah Sondej and Jessica Semler's classes, respectively, at Mars Elementary School will hold a schoolwide food drive April 29 to May 3. The food drive is being offered as part of the students' social studies lesson on the importance of volunteers and volunteering. Throughout the student-driven project, the second-graders will give speeches about the drive, create posters, collect nonperishable food donations, and graph the results. Donations may be dropped off at the school's main office, Monday through Friday, during school hours. On May 3 parent volunteers will transport all collected food items to The Lighthouse Foundation in Middlesex Township. For more information, call 724-625-3161. Play Date” kindergarten preview in two sessions from 9:30 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 2:30 p.m. May 15. The event is open to all students who are registered to attend the school's kindergarten program for the 2013-14 school year and their parents. Participants will meet the school's kindergarten teachers, join in a computer lab activity, and play on the school's playground. The purpose of the program is to aid students in making the transition into the Mars Primary Center kindergarten program. To RSVP, call 724-625-1588 before May 2.
