SR board hears cost of keeping Har-Mer open

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — The Slippery Rock School Board on Monday heard how much it would cost to keep Har-Mer Elementary School open.

Superintendent Kathy Nogay said that to keep the school in Harrisville open next year, it would cost more than $1 million, including keeping all six teachers, adding a special-education teacher, adding an assistant principal and doing a security upgrade to the building.

If the school is closed, there would be potential savings of $65,000 to $70,000 for each teaching position eliminated, she said. If the school is closed, the district plans to keep three of the six positions from Har-Mer.

That would save about $200,000, Nogay said.
