U.S. Sen. Bob Casey announced on April 1 that he has switched his stance and now supports gay marriage.

In the Associated Press article published April 2, Casey said that he changed his stance after “reviewing the legal, public policy and civil rights questions involved, as well as letters from Pennsylvania families.”

Does this mean Casey took some time to research and made a stance on an important issue? No.

“Reviewing policy” just means Casey stuck his finger in the wind to see which way the wind was blowing.

A Quinnipiac University poll from April 1 shows that 50 percent of Americans favor gay marriage, up 3 percentage points since the beginning of March.

In November, when Casey was running for re-election, he was none too concerned with switching his stance to support gay marriage. Now that the topic has become a hot-button issue, he follows popular opinion, like he always does.

Casey is, always has been, and always will be a follower. He never steps out of line to make his own stance.

He said the things he needed to say and supported the popular opinions necessary to gain re-election in November, so he can enjoy six more years in the basement.

That is why our country is in the shape it’s in. We don’t have enough leaders, only followers like Sen. Bob Casey.
