Finance VP at SRU to resign May 3

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s longtime vice president for finance and administration will resign May 3.

Charles Curry, who started at SRU in 1986 and was promoted to his current position in 1988, announced Monday that will be leaving his post.

“At some point you have to say to yourself, ‘It is time to do something else.’ I think that time has come,” Curry said in a statement.

President Cheryl Norton said that Curry was important in developing SRU’s early financial reports and a cash management program that increased interest from SRU’s investments.

“Under his leadership, the university has remained in a positive financial audit status,” Norton said in a statement.

The SRU trustees named Curry to be acting president in January 2012, when former President Robert Smith retired. He served in that position until July 2012 when Norton took over.

SRU will do a national search for a new vice president. Until then, Molly Mercer, assistant vice president for finance, will serve in the interim.

Curry, 63, lives in Slippery Rock Township with his wife, Jean. The couple has two grown children.
