Kelly errs on arms treaty

Butler County’s own U. S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-3rd, has spent a lot of time lately loudly decrying a proposed United Nations resolution. The resolution aims to control the global arms trade by making it more difficult for terrorists and rogue governments to purchase weapons of war. Despite Kelly’s mighty efforts, the resolution passed. Only three countries voted against it: Iran, North Korea and Syria.

Kelly strongly criticized the Obama administration for supporting the resolution. Why, at the same time that he was condemning the administration, did he not praise Iran, North Korea and Syria for supporting his position?

In the future, I hope Kelly will not be so quick to be a shill for the arms industry and its friends among the National Rifle Association’s leadership — and will, instead, support efforts to make the world a safer place.
