Fire damages house in Evans City

EVANS CITY — A single story house on the outskirts of the borough was damaged Wednesday afternoon when a contractor working on the house drilled through the service line bringing electricity from the meter outside into the house.

The contractor and borough police Chief Joe McCombs had the fire extinguished by the time fire trucks arrived at the house on 105 Center Street, according to Capt. Brian Greenawalt of the Evans City Volunteer Fire Department.

The quick blaze on the house’s exterior damaged siding on its eastern end, which firefighters peeled back to check for additional damage inside the structure’s walls.

Greenawalt said there was no damage to the home’s walls or interior. He did not have a damage estimate Wednesday afternoon.

A woman at the house identified herself as the property owner, but declined to comment on the incident or give her name.

Greenawalt said fire fighters from Callery, Harmony and Zelienople as well as Harmony EMS responded as well.

The fire occurred at 12:30 p.m.
