Young new coach at Mars
April 1, 2013

ADAMS TWP — Larry Young’s 40th overall season of coaching track and field will be his first as head coach of the Mars girls.

The Planets finished 6-1 last season and made WPIAL Class AAA team playoffs. Returning state qualifiers are Emily Thomas (senior, discus) and Lydia Dennis (junior, long jump, triple jump).

“Our goal is to win the section,” Young said. “The team will be pretty well balanced. They have a great attitude, they’ve been working hard in spite of the weather.

“The ultimate goal is to take two vans to the state meet between the boys and the girls.”

Ray Peaco returns for his fourth season at Seneca Valley, leading the Raiders to a 5-4 mark last year.

Jayme Rutkowski (senior, 11th in javelin) is SV’s lone returning state qualifier.

We’re very young, very inexperienced and very eager,” Peaco said. “I’m excited about this group, not only for this year, but also future years.”
