Three cheers for Reid M. Marburger of Adams Township, who told authorities of the plight of a wounded deer, asking that the appropriate actions take place to put the deer “out of her misery,” along a snow-covered road near the border of Adams and Forward townships.

Apparently the authorities alerted by Marburger’s mother’s call to 911 did not respond, possibly because of weather conditions demanding their services elsewhere.

Three cheers for Adams Township police Chief Bill Westerman, who took appropriate action when called three hours after authorities initially were alerted by way of the 911 call.

A person doesn’t have to be an animal lover to understand the plight of the deer, presumably injured by its impact with a vehicle.

Leaving any animal in a severely injured state to die is inhumane, and while the young man who discovered the dying deer did his part to ease the deer’s plight, those who could have initially completed the job and ended the animal’s suffering fell short.
