Seneca Valley is trying to make the PIAA boys volleyball playoffs a regular occurrence on the schedule.
Dan Follett, a 2007 SV graduate, inherits a brand new Seneca Valley team from previous coach Dan Mountain. The Raiders graduated their entire starting lineup — including 10 seniors — from last year’s 11-2 team that upset five-time champion North Allegheny in the WPIAL playoffs.
“That’s the advantage of having such a big school,” Follett said. “We’ve got plenty of athletes here.
“Seneca Valley has been to the state playoffs the past two years. We want to continue that streak.”
During Follett’s senior volleyball season, Seneca Valley was ranked No. 1 in the state for a stretch. He went on to play for a Division III national championship team at Juniata College.
Follett was an assistant coach at Mercer University in Georgia the past two years.
Five seniors will play key roles for the Raiders — outside hitter Kris Baier, setter Brad Hart, right side hitter Patrick Messmer, libero Tyler Blinn and middle blocker Alex Snyder.
Sophomore Taylor Matthews and junior Mike Jones at middle blocker, junior Josh Creese at outside hitter will also be major contributors.
