Man arrested Tuesday after high-speed chase

A suspected drugged driver was arrested shortly after noon Tuesday following a high-speed police chase that crossed municipalities in southern Butler County, authorities said.

Timothy Tubridy, 35, of Cranberry Township could face several charges in the case, said Evans City Police Chief Joe McCombs.

Police departments throughout the county were looking for Tubridy after he crashed his car into another vehicle about 11:45 a.m. in Butler, and drove away.

The driver of the other vehicle, owned by the Mars Home for Youth, provided authorities with a description of the suspect's car, a white Chevrolet Impala. That driver was not hurt.

Police said a lookout advisory was issued.

McCombs was on Route 68 in Forward Township when he got a radio call — the suspected hit-and-run vehicle was headed his way.

The chief stopped his car near Skander Tire. He spotted the car, which had front-end damage from the crash in Butler.

The driver, later identified as Tubridy, was driving “very erratically,” McCombs said, and “tailgating” two other vehicles in front of it.

The chief hit his cruiser's emergency lights and siren but Tubridy took off.

“(Tubridy) traveled into the eastbound lane and abruptly slid and turned onto Route 528 north,” McCombs said.

He sped away, reaching speeds up to 60 mph on the windy road.

“At least three times,” McCombs said, “he lost control of his car and hit the embankment.”

Tubridy eventually pulled over on Route 528 in Jackson Township and surrendered.

He appeared “confused,” McCombs said, and showed other signs of impairment.

Officers took him to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test and are awaiting results. Charges are pending those tests,.

Among the possible charges are a felony count of fleeing or attempting to elude police, hit-and run and driving under the influence of drugs.
