At the end of Rick Devore’s letter of Feb. 28, “Ponder gun objective,” there is a disturbing insinuation that conservatives and right-wingers may be the ones interested in establishing tyranny.

That would be laughable if it weren’t for the fact that there are so many uninformed citizens who do not understand that real tyranny always has come from the so-called left, and that the Nazis actually were on the left.

If the last statement makes anyone go “Huh?” it’s because that person is a product of the public education system and has been taught history through the distorted viewpoint of the left.

So, let’s set things straight and use some reason and common sense.

Too many times the Rick Devores of this world use deception, misinformation and lies to promote their agenda, which is to destroy and discredit the conservative side by any means necessary.

The political spectrum that the Founding Fathers of this nation used as a standard against which they categorized the different political systems was as follows:

On one extreme there was anarchy, no government and complete chaos; on the other extreme there was tyranny, complete government control and no individual liberty.

The concepts of left and right were completely alien to them. So we can see how, using this template, communism, socialism and, yes, fascism and Nazism, are all on the same side of the scale — complete government control of every aspect of the economy, the society and the individual.

Conservatives, libertarians and Tea Party likes are all in the middle, where the Founders wanted the pendulum to stay — just enough government to secure the most individual liberty and, yes, the protection of unalienable individual rights.

This brings us to the question of the Second Amendment. Anyone who reads historical documents and original sources would have no doubt that the intent of that amendment was to secure the right of every individual citizen to possess the means of protection against the government, if and when it would become tyrannical.

Any private citizen, at that time, was able to acquire the same weaponry that the military had.

Nazi Germany in the 1930s did make it easier for the “right people,” members of the party, to have access to guns, but they made sure that the Jews were completely barred from obtaining them.

Under actions in 1928 and 1938, gun manufacturers and dealers were required to maintain records about who purchased guns and the guns’ serial numbers. That was the Nazi version of “universal registration,” which in turn made confiscation possible.

History is littered with examples of governments disarming their citizens first and establishing a tyrannical government afterward.
