State House members seek support to investigate judge

HARRISBURG — Two members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives are asking their colleagues to co-sponsor a resolution that could lead to impeachment proceedings against a state Supreme Court justice.
State Reps. Glen Grell and John Sabatina on Monday distributed a memo looking for support to have the House Judiciary Committee investigate the conduct of Justice Joan Orie Melvin.
Grell, a Republican from the Harrisburg suburbs, and Sabatina, a Philadelphia Democrat, say that’s the same process used two decades ago in the impeachment of Justice Rolf Larsen.
Melvin is awaiting sentencing May 7 after being convicted of theft, conspiracy and misappropriation of state property.
The Republican justice also is facing misconduct charges before the Court of Judicial Discipline. She is suspended without pay.
