County to host flying disc tourney

Two sites in Butler County will be part of the 2015 Pro Disc World Golf Championship Tournament.
The announcement was made at a news conference Saturday at Knob Hill Community Park in Allegheny County. Knob Hill, Deer Lakes Park, Moraine State Park and Slippery Rock University will host the tournament.
“It will be 400 of the top disc golfers from all over the world coming here, along with their families and spectators,” said J. Gary Dropcho, one of the organizers. “This is a showcase event.”
Flying disc golfers will compete in tournaments throughout the 2014 season, accumulating points based on their success. The top 400 point-getters for the 2014 season will comprise the field for the 2015 world championship.
“Most of them will come from the states, but approximately 75 qualifiers will come from Japan, Sweden, Finland, Canada, Taiwan, Australia, Austria ... this sport is popular in all of those places,” Dropcho said.
