Another gas processing plant coming to Jackson

JACKSON TWP — A second cryogenic natural gas processing plant will be built in the shadow of the first one on Hartmann Road.

The Bluestone II Gas Processing Plant was approved Thursday night by the township supervisors.

The new facility, which is slightly bigger than its sister plant at about 80,000 square feet, will be built just east of the existing facility on 30 acres of former farmland.

Jim Lopresti, township engineer, said at the supervisors’ meeting that it will be several months before construction could begin. The company still needs to get state permit approvals.

Company officials hope to have the plant completed by the fourth quarter of this year.

The first Bluestone Plant was built across from the Seneca Landfill and about a mile from the Seneca Valley School District’s campus for its secondary schools.

That plant went fully operational last summer.

The company is leasing the property from Vogel Disposal Services of Mars, which also owns and operates the Seneca Landfill.

This would be the third cryogenic natural gas processing plant in Butler County and operated by MarkWest Energy Partners, based in Denver.
