House member drafts Melvin resolution

PITTSBURGH — A Republican state legislator is drafting a resolution that would be the first step in the possible impeachment of convicted Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin.
A spokesman for the House GOP majority said today that Rep. Glenn Grell of Cumberland County is preparing the resolution. Grell didn’t immediately a phone message seeking comment.
An Allegheny County jury Thursday convicted Melvin of six corruption counts.
House Republican spokesman Steve Miskin says preparations for an impeachment process will move forward if Melvin does not resign. The House reconvenes March 8, but any timetable is unclear.
If the House approves the resolution, an investigation would follow and articles of impeachment could be drafted and put to a House vote. If approved, the case would go to the Senate for trial.
