Training the Butler County commissioners on how to deal with employees will cost less money.
The commissioners on Wednesday approved an agreement with Butler County College to do the training at no more than $1,000.
The county originally got quotes from companies that priced the training from $1,900 to $4,000.
The commissioners on Feb, 6 tabled a vote awarding a contract after Commissioner Jim Eckstein suggested using Slippery Rock University or the University of Pittsburgh to save money.
County solicitor Mike English said neither university could do the training.
“They were unable to provide the service at any rate,” he said.
However, BC3 could.
“They’re still working up a program,” English said.
The commissioners must undergo the training, which includes such topics as respect in the workplace and conflict resolution, as part of a December settlement between the county and Joyce Ainsworth, director of county Children and Youth Services.
Ainsworth filed a sexual discrimination complaint in March with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging Eckstein publicly humiliated her during the Feb. 29, 2012 meeting.
The complaint accused Eckstein of favoring male employees while repeatedly embarrassing female workers.
He maintains his criticism isn’t limited to women and is restricted to actions, not people.
The commissioners on Dec. 5 accepted the settlement.
English said the six hours of BC3 training may be broken into smaller segments on different days.
