CRANBERRY TWP — Traffic will be restricted to a single lane on Brush Creek Bridge along Powell Road starting Feb. 25.
The deteriorating 75-year-old county-owned span, which had already been scheduled for replacement in 2014, was further damaged by an Oct. 6 accident in which an SUV heading west on Powell Road struck the eastbound side of the bridge, damaging one of the bridge abutments.
While the bridge will remain open to all forms of traffic, it will be narrowed to a single 14-foot lane with stop signs posted at either end.
The currently posted weight restriction remains unchanged.
Vehicles will take turns moving in alternate directions. Jersey barriers are being erected by Cranberry’s Public Works department to form a single lane by Monday, weather permitting. That restriction will remain in place until a replacement bridge is built and opened to traffic later this year.
