Double-line turns OK

In response to Sue Perkins’ Feb.13 letter, “Police part of nuisance,” the Pennsylvania driver manual, “Chapter 2 — Signals, Signs and Pavement Markings,” page 22, in bold print just above the pictures of lane markers, says, and I quote: “As a general rule, broken traffic lines can be crossed and solid lines cannot, except when making a turn.”

As for wasting a green light, perhaps Perkins should leave 10 minutes earlier so she has time to be patient with other drivers, instead of being rude by blowing her horn.

The police officer and other motorists are well within their rights and the law to turn across a double yellow line. It does not need to be an emergency, and they do not even need to want fuel for their vehicle for them to turn.

It is hard to respond to anyone as in a hurry and rude as Perkins seems to be, but others need to know the correct information — not what Perkins wrote.
